Today Microsoft announced Microsoft Teams, a new chat-based collaboration tool in Office 365. This was announced in the official Office blog.

What is Microsoft Teams?

This new tool is designed to support teams in collaboration. Each team can customize its workspace to fit the teams needs.

Additionally, Microsoft Teams is available on every mobile platform.

Why Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams is able to connect to other powerful collaboration tools. Microsoft Teams is the first tool which is able to make use of

  • Office Applications
  • SharePoint
  • Delve
  • Power BI
  • Planner
  • Office 365 Groups

By combining these, it will be easier for people to move from their currently used collaboration tool to Microsoft Teams. Teams will preserve all content, so nobody has to start at zero again.


Who can use Microsoft teams?

In general everybody that has a Business Essentials or Enterprise plan assigned.
